Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to announce two upcoming online workshops for local community groups and not-for-profits seeking training and education on important topics.
In Summary
The two workshops include Committees, Governance and Leadership; and enabling and supporting community-based advocacy. These workshops will be presented by the Institute of Community Directors and proudly supported by Council.
The Committees, Governance and Leadership workshop will explore why good governance is the key to every aspect of a not-for-profit organisation’s health.
Key topics of this workshop include the roles and responsibilities of committee members, important financial duties, governance versus management, codes of conducts, Acts, Regulations, Constitutions and Policies that apply to organisations governed by a committee or board, and where to find the information required to fulfil your role.
The enabling and supporting community-based advocacy workshop will explore the various types of advocacy and, how an organisation or community group can benefit from engaging in advocacy or supporting their members to do so. The session will provide practical tips for running successful advocacy campaigns, discuss effective risk management strategies, and outline approaches to engaging with government at all levels.
Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged all local groups to take advantage of these free sessions.
“Council is committed to supporting our local community groups and not-for-profits by providing valuable training opportunities that strengthen their leadership and governance,” he said.
“These workshops will equip participants with essential knowledge and practical tools to create well-governed organisations who can advocate for their priorities. I encourage all local groups to take advantage of these free sessions and help build a more connected Greater Shepparton.”
All sessions will be conducted online via Zoom and the Zoom link will be provided to your booking confirmation email. Bookings are essential as there are limited spots available.
