A total funding pool of $40,000 is on offer, with individual grants of between $1,000 and $10,000 available for successful applicants to delivery youth design and lead events within Greater Shepparton. The funding is part of Council’s FReeZA program funding provided by the State Government.
The purpose of the program is to display young people’s skills and talents whilst celebrating and recognising the important contribution young people make to cultural life and community.
Funded events must be drug, alcohol, vape and smoke-free and should reflect the broad interests of young people and the local youth culture, which may include:
- Music – live performances and open mic
- Sport – skate, BMX, scooter, down ball tournament, 3 x 3 basketball and E-Gaming
- Dance – hip hop, pop, jazz, ballroom and tap
- Festival – community and cultural recognition
- Art – exhibitions, short film, theatre performance and workshops
- Events that celebrate First Nations history
- Social, wellbeing and educational opportunities
- Events that celebrate and provide safe spaces for diverse communities including First Nations, LGBTIQA+, multicultural communities and people living with a disability.
This grant program provides the opportunity for young people to lead the design and delivery of events, activities and programs that respond to the local youth culture. We encourage local groups that work with young people, to be creative and innovative to design and deliver a diverse range of projects through this funding program.
The capacity of an organisation or individual to manage the project will be assessed and preference will be given to applicants that can demonstrate the required skills, structure and planning to see the project through.
