Councillor Kim O’Keeffe has resigned from her position as Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council, effective from 11pm Monday 6 June and will seek to take leave of absence.
Cr O’Keeffe was in her fourth term as Mayor having previously served in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Cr O’Keeffe also served as Deputy Mayor in 2017.
A Mayoral election to elect a new Mayor will be held at an Additional Council Meeting at 5.30pm on 9 June 2022. The Deputy Mayoral position held by Cr Brophy will remain unless Cr Brophy is elected Mayor in which case a new Deputy Mayor will be elected at a future meeting.
Cr O’Keeffe will also be applying for Leave of Absence at Thursday night’s Additional Council Meeting.
In tendering her resignation as Mayor, Cr O’Keeffe said she was incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to be Mayor. “I would like to thank my colleagues past and present for giving me the support to represent Council to our community. I have not done this alone, it takes a team of councillors and I have enjoyed working with all of them. ”
“It’s a role I have thoroughly enjoyed. I appreciate the support from the community and the chance to be involved in so many important local events, strategic developments and initiatives.”
You can watch the Additional Council Meeting on Council's Facebook page.
