Local creatives, artists, cultural groups and community organisations can now apply for their share of funding to support creative projects and ideas, thanks to Greater Shepparton City Council’s newest grants program.
The Creative City Grants Program is now open and accepting applications, with the program replacing Council’s previous Community Arts Grants.
Grants of between $1000 and $5000 are available for projects which support local creative talent, contribute to the diversity and vitality of the region’s creative activity, encourage participation in the arts, and strengthen Greater Shepparton’s identity as a Creative City. The grants aim to better support the region’s creative industry by allowing individuals artists and creatives to apply, along with arts groups, cultural groups, and community organisations.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the Creative City Grants Program reflects Council’s commitment to investing in the local creative sector.
“Investment in the arts and creative industries is a core business of Council, however we need to ensure this investment is effective and relevant,” he said.
“This new grants program will increase accessibility to local creatives, groups and organisations, will streamline the application process and will increase the potential for more ambitious and impactful projects that encourage investment into the region.”
Cr Sali said the arts played an important role in building social connection, community wellbeing and economic vitality in the region. He encouraged any interested creatives to consider applying for their share of funding.
“Council are pleased to be able to offer this funding to the community. We believe this new grant structure will better improve the support we offer to the creative industry,” Cr Sali said.
“We look forward to seeing this funding put to good use. I encourage people to think creatively of how they can use the grant to support new projects and ideas which strengthen art and creativity across Greater Shepparton.”
Applications for the Creative City Grants Program are now open and close on Monday 10 April 2023 at 5pm. For more information and to apply, visit Council’s Community Grants and Funding page.
