Greater Shepparton City Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, recognised nine examples of cultural heritage conservation, research, education, promotion and interpretation at the 2019 Cultural Heritage Awards on Saturday, 27 April.
The awards aim to recognise the invaluable work of the owners and guardians of our cultural heritage, while promoting the benefits of cultural heritage conservation by highlighting good practice.
This year, the first ever nomination in the ‘Student/Youth Contribution’ category was received, highlighting the growth of the awards and cultural heritage conservation in the region.
Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe and the Hon Damian Drum MP presented the awards to the winners.
Cr O’Keeffe said the quality of nominations for this year’s Cultural Heritage Awards proves there is no shortage of outstanding contributions to cultural heritage in our municipality.
“I congratulate all the winners and nominees on their outstanding commitment to cultural heritage conservation and look forward to the next Cultural Heritage Awards to be held in 2021,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“The success of this year’s awards demonstrates the increasing community understanding and pride in our history and heritage.”
Cr O’Keeffe highlighted the dedication of the volunteers on the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, who worked extremely hard to develop and coordinate the awards.
Council looks forward to supporting the Heritage Advisory Committee in continuing to raise the profile of heritage in Greater Shepparton.
Nominations for the Cultural Heritage Awards were open from 22 August to 7 December 2018.
