By completing a short survey, residents, pet owners, animal welfare groups, local businesses and interested community members can help shape Council’s approach to responsible pet ownership, community safety and animal welfare across the municipality.
The DAMP guides Council’s animal management services and outlines strategic priorities and actions relating to cats and dogs, including registration and identification, nuisance animals, dog attacks, declared dogs, domestic animal businesses, community education and the operation of Council’s animal shelter.
Council’s Manager Environment Sharon Terry said community feedback would play an important role in ensuring the plan reflects local priorities and supports positive outcomes for pets, owners and the wider community.
“Domestic animals are an important part of many households across Greater Shepparton, and Council has a key role in promoting responsible pet ownership and supporting animal welfare,” she said.
“We want to hear from the community about their experiences in Greater Shepparton, their knowledge of Council’s work in this space and what Council should consider as part of its future animal management planning.
“We would even love for you to simply share a photo of your pet and tell us why they mean so much to you.”
Community members are encouraged to complete the online survey via the Shaping Greater Shepp website or complete a hardcopy survey at Council Offices, 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.
Feedback received during the consultation period will help inform the development of the plan and Council’s future actions to support responsible animal management across Greater Shepparton.

Under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Victorian councils are required to prepare a Domestic Animal Management Plan. The plan provides a framework for animal management services and helps guide programs, education and enforcement activities that promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
