Thanks to a good Samaritan reporting the location to Victoria Police, Council staff were called Wednesday evening, to identify what was thought to be the missing Furphy tank.
With the Furphy tank identified it has since been returned to Council.
Additional security measure will be considered for before the Furphy Tank is returned to public display.

Historic Furphy tanker stolen from Council park
An integral part of Shepparton’s history has been stolen from a local park with thieves making off with an historic Furphy water tank from Furphy Park in MacIntosh Street, Shepparton.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker said “This is not a small or light object, it would take several strong people to handle the fully assembled tank. The ends and the tank lid are all made of cast iron with a rolled galvanised barrel.”
“The history of both the Furphy business and products and the fabled telling of furphies are synonymous with Shepparton,” said Mr Bowmaker.
“This really is a low act, it was a popular fixture at the park and reminded people of our local history,” said Mr Bowmaker.
