Greater Shepparton City Council is supporting Tallygaroopna and Shepparton East Community Planning Groups to host two special community movie nights. These free events, held in Shepparton East and Tallygaroopna, aim to connect neighbours, strengthen local connections, and increase awareness of community planning in the local areas.
The first movie night will take place on Friday 28 March at the Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve, and the second on Thursday 3 April at Shepparton East Primary School oval. Activities will begin at 6.00pm, with the movies starting at 7.00pm. The Barbie movie will be shown in Tallygaroopna, while the movie Sing 2 will be the feature film in Shepparton East.
There will be a free BBQ and giant games at Shepparton East, while fish and chips will be available for purchase at the Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve Pavilion, along with giant games. These activities aim to make the evening more enjoyable for the whole family.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged residents to get involved in the upcoming events.
"These movie nights are a fantastic way for residents to connect in a fun, welcoming environment. We are proud to support these events and encourage everyone to come along and enjoy them with family and friends," he said.
Councillor Geoff Akers, Pine Lodge Ward, highlighted the positive impact local events have on smaller towns.
“Community movie nights really bring smaller communities to life. They help locals get to know each other better, encourage friendships between neighbours and give everyone a reason to relax, unwind and have fun close to home,” he said.
Both events are supported by Council’s Community Planning Implementation Fund (CPIF), which allows Community Planning Groups the opportunity to apply for funding to progress community led initiatives.
