Greater Shepparton busy with activities for International Day of People with Disability

International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations sanctioned day celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Council, along with a number of partners, is running events that link with the 2019 International Day of People with Disability theme, Access and Inclusion in Sport and Art.

The free event at Shepparton Sports Stadium from 10am-2pm will include all abilities sports including wheelchair football, soccer, wheelchair basketball, badminton and table tennis, as well as a free barbecue. Wheelchair AFL player Caleb Logan and filmmaker Emily Quattrocchi will guest speak at the event.

Shepparton Art Museum will hold a free all abilities tour of the current collection exhibition A Finer Grain. A Finer Grain is an exhibition presenting key and lesser-known works by Australian women artists spanning the full breath of SAM’s 83-year collection history. There will be two sessions at 11am and 2pm, with an Auslan interpreter accompanying the 2pm group.

For more information on the Greater Shepparton events, please contact Council’s Access and Inclusion Officer on 03 5832 9592.

Bookings for the gallery tours can be made on Eventbrite.
