Greater Shepparton City Council are inviting the community to have their voices heard at the Empowering Communities Community Safety Forum on Friday 31 March 2022.
Council are one of six Local Government Areas who were successful in receiving an Empowering Communities grant which is part of the State Government’s Building Safer Communities Program. The targeted Empowering Communities program aims to support local communities to design and lead innovative initiatives to address the causes of crime and improve perceptions of safety.
Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said Council were extremely pleased to be a recipient of the Empowering Communities Grant.
“This is an opportunity for our community to have their voices heard on what makes them feel safe and unsafe within the municipality,” she said.
“Our community are ready for action and to build on local community safety efforts already being implemented.”
The forum will be facilitated by Nelly Thomas, author and facilitator who will lead the community through a range of activities and sessions to develop focus areas for the Greater Shepparton Empowering Communities project for the next three years.
Minister for Crime Prevention Natalie Hutchins MP will present and participate in the forum, together with Council staff and Councillors, key agencies and community organisations and community members,
The forum is hosted in partnership with Greater Shepparton City Council, Greater Shepparton Safe Communities Advisory Committee and the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Register for the event here. The event will be held on Thursday 31 March, commencing at 1pm at the Shepparton Senior Citizens Centre. Doors will be open to attendees 15 minutes prior.
