Council is excited to announce that the 2023 AusCycling Masters and Junior Road National Championships will be coming to Greater Shepparton. From Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 September, the best age category riders in Australia will race on the roads of Dookie and Shepparton.
Dookie and its canola fields will be the setting for the Individual Time Trial on Thursday 21 September, the Junior Road Race and Masters Women on Friday 22 September, and the Masters Men Road Race on Saturday 23 September. Shepparton’s town centre will see the Criterium for Junior’s and Masters Women on Saturday 23 September and the Masters Men on Sunday 24 September.
The championship will bring over 600 athletes and a significant amount of additional support crew, family and friends from all over Australia, making it the perfect opportunity to activate the region and bring national exposure.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, welcomed the event saying he was looking forward to seeing athletes, supporters and spectators visit Greater Shepparton.
“Greater Shepparton City Council is very proud to host the 2023 AusCycling Masters and Junior Road National Championships. We welcome the athletes and their supporters and wish them all the best throughout the competition,” he said.
“These events are a great opportunity to activate the economy throughout the region and showcase our wonderful towns, while strengthening our reputation as the leading sporting and events capital of regional Australia.”
“With well over 2,000 visitors converging on the region Shepparton and Goulburn Valley will be a buzz generating significant economic stimulation across our accommodation, visitor attractions, hospitality, entertainment and retail sectors of our visitor economy helping support jobs and growth and keeping our economy strong”
AusCycling General Manager – Events and Racing, Adam Power, was thrilled by the opportunity for the Championships to take place in Greater Shepparton.
“These Championships offer unique racing opportunities for the participants. Greater Shepparton has been a great host for cycling events in the past and we are excited to see what the region has to offer this time,” he said.
