Netball Victoria is pleased to announce the first ANZ Championship pre-season netball match in Shepparton on Saturday 5 March 2016.
Working with the Greater Shepparton City Council, the Melbourne Vixens will host the Adelaide Thunderbirds in a pre-season match sanctioned by the ANZ Championship.
Netball Victoria CEO Michelle Plane is excited to bring world-class netball to communities in regional Victoria.
"Netball fans and fans of all elite sport have a wonderful opportunity to see leading International athletes like Geva Mentor, Madi Robinson, Erin Bell and Carla Borrego in their local area is a rare opportunity outside of capital cities,” Ms Plane said.
“The support Netball Victoria has received from the Greater Shepparton City Council has been fantastic and ultimately enabled us to bring this world class event to Shepparton next year.”
“We encourage all sport lovers to book the date in now and make sure they are there for this historical match and get behind Netball Victoria and our Melbourne Vixens in the lead up to their 2016 campaign.”
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem said this announcement continues to build on Greater Shepparton’s reputation as a leading sporting events destination in regional Australia.
“It is a massive coup for our region to host the ANZ Championship pre-season match on the same weekend as the AFL NAB Challenge between Essendon and Geelong,” Cr Adem said.
“The football and netball will put a national spotlight on Greater Shepparton and showcase the high quality sporting facilities we have here.”
Melbourne Vixens Kate Moloney, Chloe Watson and Alice Teague-Neeld were on hand for the announcement in Shepparton on Tuesday morning.
Fixture and ticketing information will be confirmed early in 2016 with the match set to take place at Wanganui Park Secondary College.
