Road users should be on the lookout for new pedestrian crossing lights on Hawdon Street to be activated next week.
The lights have been installed in response to a surge in pedestrian activity in the area due to the large number of students attending Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
On Thursday, contractors commenced works to activate the new pedestrian crossing lights at Hawdon Street. These works included the installation of the controller box for the lights.
Contractors will return to site at 9am on Tuesday 24 May to install and connect the remaining components and activate the new lights. These works are expected to take approximately one and a half hours to complete with the lights anticipated to be operational around 2pm.
While these works will not impact traffic, Greater Shepparton City Council asks that road users be aware of the new lights when driving on Hawdon Street.
Crossing supervisors will remain until motorists adjust to the new traffic conditions.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Gary Randhawa said the addition of the lights is important to improve safety for pedestrians.
“With an increase number of pedestrians in the area, it is important to have these lights operational,” he said.
