Shepparton Library redevelopment moving ahead

The redevelopment of the Shepparton Library is progressing, with a project board formed to lead the project.

The redevelopment will allow for additional space and reconfiguration of the internal layout will allow the library to offer more significant programs, particularly for children and youth.

Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation Board Member Cr Les Oroszvary said this is a very significant project for the Library and Greater Shepparton City Council.

"We are looking to engage an architect who understands the importance of the library to the community, as a meeting place and welcome zone for visitors to the region. The library is also somewhere to learn and interact with others," Cr Oroszvary said.

"This week we will be advertising the design tender for the project, followed by the construction tender."

Once an architect is appointed Council will consult with key stakeholders of the Shepparton library and will also hold a public consultation session.

The Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation administration team have moved from office space at the library to new offices at 79 Benalla Road, Shepparton.

In June 2013 the Victorian Government Living Libraries fund announced Greater Shepparton City Council was successful in receiving funding of $433,000 towards the redevelopment of the Shepparton Library.
