Greater Shepparton City Council, supported by VicHealth, is calling on young creatives aged 13 to 25 in Greater Shepparton to bring their stories to life on the big screen as part of the Frame the Future Film Festival.
In Summary
The project is being delivered as part of the VicHealth Local Government Partnership, a program providing support to local governments to improve the wellbeing of children and young people.
The festival will provide participants with the opportunity to explore and express their perspectives on pressing public health challenges through film-making. Young people will engage in three expert-led workshops, developing and producing their own short films.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the festival offers a unique opportunity for young people to develop skills, share their voices and make an impact.
“We are excited to give young people a platform to showcase their creativity while exploring important issues that impact their generation,” he said.
“This experience will not only equip them with technical skills in film-making but also empower them to become storytellers and change makers. I encourage those aged 13 to 25 who are interested in filmmaking or have a passion for storytelling, to apply.”
Participants will receive guidance from industry professionals through a series of hands-on workshops covering both public health topics and film production. The project will conclude with a premiere screening in Spring 2025, where the young film-makers’ work will be celebrated on the big screen. Eligible participants who attend at least two of the three workshops and submit a valid film entry will receive a resource voucher to the value of $200 to help support their creative journey.
Council’s Director Community, Louise Mitchell, said the festival will provide a platform for young people to highlight public health issues and contribute to important conversations.
“Film is a powerful medium for storytelling, and this program provides a platform for young people to share their perspectives on public health issues that matter most to them,” she said.
“We hope that this initiative will bring new voices and meaningful discussions that can inspire change within our community and beyond.”
There is no prior experience necessary to apply, just a willingness to learn and the ability to commit to the project timeline. Council encourages applications from young people of all backgrounds, including First Nations youth, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Applications are now open and close Saturday 14 June 2025. Tap here to learn more or submit an expression of interest.
