Greater Shepparton City Council has recognised the outstanding contributions of volunteers across the region at the 17th annual Greater Shepparton Volunteer Recognition Awards.
Held at Riverlinks Eastbank, the event brought together more than three hundred attendees to celebrate a record 45 nominees across four award categories, highlighting the dedication and impact of volunteers within the community.
The Volunteer Recognition Awards recognise and thank individuals who contribute their time and energy for the benefit of the community. The ceremony is held annually as part of National Volunteer Week, with this year’s theme being ‘Your Year to Volunteer’, encouraging greater community participation.

Noor supports the planning and delivery of inclusive, accessible events for young people and actively works to ensure multicultural youth feel welcomed and represented in community spaces.
Michael Rowe - Adult Volunteer Award
Michael volunteers with the Mary Coram Unit at GV Health, supporting people who are new amputees. Drawing on lived experience, Michael provides one-on-one peer support, helping patients manage mental isolation and adjust to life after amputation by sharing practical insights and coping strategies.
Wendy Hunt - Long Serving Volunteer Award
Wendy has volunteered with the Caroline Chisholm Society for more than 40 years, supporting vulnerable families across Greater Shepparton. Wendy provides direct assistance to families in need and mentors new volunteers and staff, sharing extensive knowledge gained through decades of frontline community support.
Oncology Support Volunteer Team – Volunteer Team Award
The Oncology Support Volunteer Team provides daily practical support within the Oncology Unit, including serving meals, preparing information packs, managing supplies and assisting patients and families. Their reliable presence allows clinical staff to focus on care while ensuring patients receive consistent, compassionate support throughout treatment.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated all nominees and winners, acknowledging the vital role volunteers play in strengthening the Greater Shepparton community.
“Each nominee reflects the true spirit of Greater Shepparton, generously dedicating their time to uplift the lives of others,” he said.
“The Volunteer Recognition Awards are a valuable opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of individuals who give so much to our community. It’s also a timely reminder of the power of volunteerism and the importance of supporting one another,” Cr Sali said.
Nominations were submitted by community members, with winners selected by an independent assessment panel comprising of two community representatives and a Council officer.
