A workshop hosted by Spiire, was held with key business and community stakeholders on 21 November 2017 as part of the contracted Maude Street Mall design works.
Feedback from the session has informed the ongoing development of the three redevelopment options and also the design of a trial option, which includes the introducing of both traffic and parking, all of which are due to be presented to Council for consideration in 2018.
A major highlight and outcome from the workshop was an additional option that has yet to be considered. This option consists of a balance of key components including high quality public open space, traffic movement and additional car parking spaces. Spiire is currently developing up the design for the additional idea and it will be included as part of the total suite of conceptual design options to be presented to Council.
“The workshop and consultation process have been extremely valuable in informing the designs of the conceptual options”, explains Spiire Project Lead Lauren Gillard. “To date Spiire has received some great feedback which has subsequently prompted us to explore another new idea for the design of the Maude Street Mall space which is exciting.”
Once completed, the conceptual designs will be presented to the broader community for feedback prior to a recommendation being presented to Council on the future direction of the Maude Street Mall. This extended consultation is expected to take place in mid-2018.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Acting Director of Sustainable Development Greg McKenzie suggests that, “The additional design option is a pertinent example of the value of consultation. Having some existing options as a starting point for discussions has generated another well-thought-out idea to be considered. This approach to consultation is resulting in some great outcomes for projects and the community.”
