Greater Shepparton City Council completed works in Elizabeth Street last week and the road is now open to traffic. The works included kerb and channel replacement, asphalt renewal, line marking and the addition of a new roundabout at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Anne Street.
The need for a roundabout at the intersection was identified as part of the Mooroopna Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) study, which was developed in 2020 following community consultation in October and November 2019. Local residents told Council they were concerned with traffic volumes and driver behaviour in the area east of Echuca Road and north of McLennan Street.
Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Director Infrastructure, Tim Zak said the construction of a roundabout at the intersection was identified as a high priority treatment for the initial stage of the LATM plan.
“The new roundabout will both reduce and slow traffic, addressing the concerns of community members living in the area” he said.
Council would like to thank local residents and road users for their patience during the works, as well as Mooroopna Golf Club who had significant changes to access during the construction period.
