National Tree Day Cancelled

Greater Shepparton City Council will be holding a special community planting event to celebrate the 100,000th planting in the One Tree Per Child project this year.

Due to COVID-19, Greater Shepparton City Council’s National Tree Day will be cancelled this year.

One Tree Per Child started in 2016 with a target to plant 16,664 native plants in honour of each of the young people under the age of 18 in our municipality. Each year, the target has increased by 10%. This year we are planting over 24,000 plants.

Together, with children, community members and businesses we have reached this significant goal of 100,000 local native plants. The plantings have provided biodiversity benefits for our woodland birds through shelter and food.

Council will continue to monitor COVID-19 restrictions and the impacts on the celebration planting. Additional details about the date will be released once confirmed. The event will be held at KidsTown Adventure Park.

For enquiries, please phone Council on 03 5832 9700.
