The modern building provides a high quality finish and comfortable feel compliant to current accessibility standards, seeing it as the premier toilet facility in Shepparton’s CBD.
Greater Shepparton City Council Manager Neighbourhoods Amanda Tingay said the new toilet facility is bright and vibrant with improved external lighting, paths, and overall functionality.
“The new building looks fantastic and feels more reminiscent of shopping centre amenities than a public toilet. More importantly, the new facility consists of a Changing Places toilet, all gender accessible toilet, male and female ambulant toilets and a Parents’ Room.
“Council wishes to thank the community and traders in the precinct for their patience and support throughout the project. The new facility will no doubt be of great benefit to locals and visitors alike,” said Ms Tingay.
The Parents’ Room, which includes two feeding rooms and a communal baby change area, can be accessed by picking up a key from Little Oak Boutique and Hudsons Coffee.
The Victorian Government provided $110,000 towards the Changing Places toilet which includes a full sized change table, hoist and shower and meets the needs of people with severe and profound disabilities.
The Changing Places toilet can be accessed with either a personal Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK) or by picking up an MLAK from Hudsons Coffee. If a member of the community would like to obtain an MLAK they can contact Council’s Access and Inclusion Officer on (03) 5832 9700.
The official opening of the facility will be held during the Winter City Market on Friday 25 August 2017 at 10.30am. All members of the community are invited to come along and check out the new facility.
