New look library re-opens on Monday

The Shepparton Library in Marungi Street will be re-opening on Monday 15 December after four weeks closure whilst internal refurbishments were completed.

The new works have transformed the interior of the library with new carpet to parts of the flooring, fresh paint, a dedicated IT area with new public access computers, a Skype room, new furniture and cabinet work along with a modern, curved circulation desk.

The entrance area has lockers for people to leave their bags in a secure location and the toilet areas have been refurbished with a dedicated parenting room and a new accessible toilet.

A new community room that can be accessed after hours is available for bookings and features a kitchenette, tables and chairs that can be rearranged to suit the purpose and audio visual facilities.

In addition there is an outdoor deck area with shade sails that can accommodate workshops or story telling and which has a large expanse of wall that will be transformed by art in the future. Of course free WiFi is available in all the new areas as well.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community Kaye Thomson said “even though we are still waiting for new lighting and signage to be installed we were keen to resume operations so as not to inconvenience library users for longer than necessary.”

“In the coming weeks we will finalise these jobs as well as external painting and cleaning and organise signs in time for an official opening early in the new year.”

Goulburn Valley Regional Library CEO, Kevin Preece said the library staff had been working hard for the last week restocking the shelves with books, magazines, DVD’s and other items in preparation for the re-opening. “We are really excited by the changes to the library and that users will have access to new computers and facilities to make their visit much better.”

“The library was looking very tired and dated and it is pleasing to see how much of a change the refurbishment has made,” he said.
