Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking feedback to help shape the Positive Ageing Strategy 2023-2027. The strategy could impact 38 percent (Australian Bureau of Statistics, census Population and Housing) of Greater Shepparton’s 60 plus population.
Council and the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee are committed to supporting the ageing population of our region and values the contributions from the community and partners to help inform the Positive Ageing Strategy.
Consultation is open to all community members that want to provide feedback on how to shape the strategy. Mayor, Cr Shane Sali said this is a great opportunity for the community to have their say on how Council can positively impact our ageing community over the next four years.
“We will all know someone that would benefit from the strategy; family, friends, parents and grandparents, carers, agencies and services who exist to support our ageing population. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on how this strategy can benefit them,” said Cr Sali.
Councillor representative on the Positive Ageing Committee, Cr Seema Abdullah, said “Nearly 40 percent of our population are aged over 60, with an increase since 2016.”
“The pandemic and floods have highlighted the importance of keeping everyone including our ageing community connected. We would like to hear about ideas and priorities for Council to focus on from the community,” she said.
Feedback can be provided online via the Shaping Greater Shepparton website, in person at one of Council’s drop-in sessions, or by calling Council. Consultation will close on Thursday 15 March at 5pm.
