Greater Shepparton residents are invited to come and join Charlie the Pollution Pirate to help clean up our rivers on Saturday 22 April.
Rubbish doesn’t belong in our rivers and everyone is invited to take to the water and land to help clean it up. Both on-water and on-land rubbish clean-up will occur.
If you are planning to be a water pirate, you are welcome to bring along your own boat, canoe or kayak or you can borrow a canoe/kayak from the Shepparton Canoe Club. For those who would prefer to be an on land pirate, all of the equipment will be provided including bags, gloves and pickup sticks.
RiverConnect Project Officer, Ali White, said the event came about after attendees at the recent Canoeing along the River event mentioned how much rubbish they saw during their paddle.
“The floods washed so much rubbish into our beautiful river systems and there is really only one way to get it out,” she said.
“It takes many hands and we’re really excited to have passionate community members taking part in the day and supporting this event.”
A BBQ lunch will be provided and a prize awarded for the best Pollution Pirate costume!
For further information, contact RiverConnect on 5832 9700 or riverconnect@shepparton.vic.gov.au
For on water participation, attendees can either bring their own boat or canoe/kayak, or borrow a canoe/kayak from the Shepparton Canoe Club. All attendees will be provided the equipment needed for cleaning up, all boat operators should have the appropriate licence.
When: Saturday 22 April
Where: Daintons Bridge, Shepparton
Time: 9am to 1pm
