Greater Shepparton City Council has modified the usage of the Shepparton Regional Saleyards in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Phil Hoare said “Council places the highest priority on the health and wellbeing of staff and community members.”
“To minimise the risks associated with the current pandemic the number of people attending sales at the Shepparton Regional Saleyards will be restricted to essential personnel. Also, as of Tuesday 31 March only live weight sales will be conducted,” said Mr Hoare.
“The sale will be open to abattoir and commissioned buyers only, and they must register 24 hours prior to a sale with the saleyard manager. All animals for sale must be booked through an agent of the Goulburn Valley Stock Agents Association.”
Truck drivers are restricted to the loading and unloading areas only. The per head auction, and the bobby calf sale will be cancelled until further notice.
“We understand this may result in some inconvenience however at this stage the welfare of our community is the priority and our focus is on keeping this vital facility operational,” said Mr Hoare.
“As soon as we can open the saleyards again to full operations we look forward to seeing all our vendors, agents and buyers back.”
