Shepparton BMX Track upgrades to come as contracts awarded for works

At its October Council Meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of two contracts for upgrades at the Shepparton BMX Track, including enhancements to the start hill and track batter surfacing.

The contract for the Shepparton BMX Track start hill enhancements was awarded to Moretto Building Pty Ltd for the lump sum price of $180,584.80. This project improves functionality, accessibility and safety on the five metre and eight metre start hills along with providing an enclosed storage area for the Shepparton BMX and Shepparton Cycling Club to better manage and store club and major event equipment.

The contract for the Shepparton BMX Track batter surfacing was awarded to Pro Polymer Surfaces for the lump sum price of $60,164.50. This project will improve and enhance the track surface at the sides of the jumps providing improved maintenance management for the Shepparton BMX Club and a more aesthetically appealing surface for broadcasting for national and international major events.

These upgrades are part of the Victorian Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which also include upgrading the Shepparton BMX Multi Use Events Pavilion, with the contract for this project awarded at the August Council Meeting.

Investment into the Shepparton BMX Track and Cycling Precinct will further enhance Greater Shepparton’s major events program helping attract a future pipeline of state, national and international events which will stimulate the economy, create sports development and participation opportunities leaving a lasting legacy for the region.

Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure, Kelli Halden, said the upgrades position the Shepparton BMX Track as the premier track in the state.

“This is the leading BMX track in our state. The upgrades to the start hill and track batter surfacing will enhance the Shepparton BMX Club as an outstanding venue for riders, spectators and visitors. These enhancements will position the club to host major sporting events for many years ahead,” she said.

“Investing in world-class infrastructure not only helps local riders achieve their highest potential but also stimulates the local economy, supports businesses, and attracts more visitors to Greater Shepparton.”

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said this announcement is a win for riders.

"The announcement of these two contractors for the upgrades at Shepparton BMX track is bringing riders one step closer to having a world-class facility in Shepparton," she said.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes says these facilities are a boost for Shepparton riders and the region.

“This is an exciting step for the upgrades at Shepparton BMX track, which will provide local riders with the very best facilities to train and compete, and draw more competitors to the Shepparton region,” she said.
