Greater Shepparton City Council would like to advise speed limit changes will soon come into effect around areas of Greater Shepparton.
Lower speed limits will be imposed along Rudd Road and St Georges Road following extensive consultation between Council, local residents and business owners.
Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure Tim Zak said speed limit changes were necessary in Shepparton’s north to support residential growth, particularly around Rudd Road and Golf Drive, and the need to ensure the safety of residents and road users.
“Residential development in Shepparton’s north has progressed significantly in recent years resulting in housing development reaching the current 80km/h zone,” he said.
“Council have worked to consider the speed limits in this area as a whole and we believe the changes proposed will greatly improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and residents.”
The changes that will be implemented are:
Speed limit changes will also occur along St Georges Road, with lower speeds introduced along the shopping precinct between Hayes and Swallow Streets and in front of St Georges Road Primary School.
The new arrangement will see a 40km/h speed limit introduced along St Georges Road, between Sobraon Street and John Street, and a 50km/h speed limit for the rest of the road from High Street to Wilmot Road.
Mr Zak said each of these speed limit changes would be implemented in the coming weeks.
“These changes are coming into effect following extensive consultation with locals, and Council thank the community for sharing their thoughts and providing their feedback. This information is extremely important to ensure our road network is as safe as it can be for all,” he said.
“Please keep an eye out for the new signage which will be installed in the coming weeks. These lower speed limits will have a positive impact on the overall safety of these busy areas around Greater Shepparton.”
For more information about these speed limit changes, please contact Council’s Projects Department on 5832 9700.
