Street Rider Night Bus Service will be running two buses next weekend, Sunday 13 December, in anticipation of large numbers of people hitting the town to celebrate the festive season.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Manager Neighbourhoods Amanda Tingay said with many events on this weekend and large numbers of people out on the town, it was important there were options for people to get home safely.
“It’s the time of the year when we’re all out and about, having fun and catching up with friends at local clubs and hotels,” Ms Tingay said.
“The Street Rider bus service is a great way for people to get home safely after a night out and operates in conjunction with our other Community Safety initiatives including the Safer City Camera Network.”
“Street Rider will operate from 1am to 5am Sunday morning, picking up from the front of OPSM in Maude Street, GV Hotel, Yahoo Bar and out the front of Harris Scarf on Wyndham Street and drop you off to your door in Shepparton, Kialla or Mooroopna.”
The service is coordinated by Council and Shepparton Victoria Police and is supported locally by the following businesses: Brown Baldwin Accountants, Community Accessibility, Quality Teams, Shepparton Rotary Club, The Fairley Foundation, Bullion Bar, Aussie Hotel, Yahoo Bar, The Vic Hotel, Southern Cross Media and Willprint.
Street Rider Night Bus can be contacted during operating hours on 0429 449 995 or for more information contact Council on (03) 5832 9700, click to the GSCC website or visit the Street Rider Facebook page.
The Street Rider Night Bus Service project was established in partnership by the Greater Shepparton City Council and Victoria Police in 2008 to address drink driving within the local area, late night altercations and assaults and disorderly behaviour within Shepparton's central business district. The Street Rider Night Bus provides a safe, easy and inexpensive alternative for late night travel.
