Sustainability Grants awarded

Greater Shepparton City Council approved more than $10,000 worth of grants to support sustainability in the municipality at the December Council Meeting, via the Community Sustainability Grants program.

A total of five grants were approved with a total of $11,329.

Successful applicants:

  • Shepparton Search and Rescue Squad Inc. Security Light LED Upgrade $3000
  • Zero Carbon Tatura Communications Project $3000
  • Transition Tatura Communities Shaping the Future: My Community 2021 $1500
  • Tatura Community House Harvest Table $1670
  • Currawa Primary School Wicking Vegetable Garden Beds $2159

The Sustainability Grants are designed to support the development and implementation of sustainable projects and events, which will contribute to achieving sustainability related actions in Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

The intention of the funding is to assist projects which achieve some or all of the following objectives:

  • Encourage and support businesses, industry and the general community to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the impacts of climate change
  • Increase the energy efficiency of existing and new residential and commercial buildings across the municipality
  • Raise community awareness of the relevance of climate change, the impacts it will have on our environment and way of life, and the opportunities it will present
  • Encourage participation in sustainability activities and events
  • Enable community members to acquire or develop new skills in relation to Sustainability
  • Increase community awareness on waste minimisation and correct waste disposal
  • Enable community members to acquire or develop new skills in relation to sustainability.
