Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, will undertake a Flood Scoping Study in Tallygaroopna to help better understand and plan for future events.
Tallygaroopna has previously been affected by significant flooding, most recently in 2012. The Scoping Study will focus on the township, including external influences which impact on flooding conditions within the town.
The results will be used to provide an improved understanding of flooding conditions, influence and impacts in Tallygaroopna, develop improved planning controls to better manage future development in the town, and provide information for the assessment of possible improvement measures to reduce future flood impacts. Council has appointed consultants Confluence Group to undertake the study.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali encouraged residents to provide their feedback, saying this was a pivotal step in the development of the study.
“Feedback is needed from residents to help draw on local knowledge accumulated from observing the past floods in Tallygaroopna. The residents may have lived through these floods and have firsthand knowledge of the impact and what is needed to be improved,” he said.
Council will be posting out a copy of the survey to all Tallygaroopna township residents within the next week. Residents can provide feedback online through the Shaping Greater Shepp website, by sending back the survey in the reply paid envelope or by picking up a survey from Council’s Welsford Street, Shepparton Office or the Tallygaroopna Post Office.
“Council and the consultants will host a drop in session at the Soldiers Memorial Hall in Tallygaroopna on Wednesday 14 June. This will give residents an opportunity to bring along information such as old photos and tell us what happened during certain flood events,” Cr Sali said.
“Tallygaroopna has experienced significant flooding six times between 1919 and 2012. The best people to ask for information are the locals.”
Feedback is open until Friday 23 June 2023 and can be provided via:
