Tatura Fit program builds positive connections for young people

The Tatura Fit program supported local young people aged 10 to 13 years, through a series of educational and physical activities delivered during school hours in a safe and supervised environment. The program was delivered in partnership with Council’s Community Wellbeing team, Victoria Police’s Proactive Unit and Tatura Primary Schools.

Throughout the program, participants took part in structured activities at the Tatura Swimming Pool and Tatura Sports Stadium, focused on improving physical wellbeing whilst also strengthening confidence, teamwork and resilience.

The program concluded at the start of April with a friendly Police versus youth basketball game, celebrating the participation and achievements of the young people involved.

A key aim of the Tatura Fit program is to foster positive relationships between young people and Victoria Police. By encouraging connection, wellbeing and a sense of belonging, the program provided a constructive and supportive outlet for young people in the Tatura community.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, commended the collaborative approach taken to deliver the program.

“Programs like Tatura Fit demonstrate the value of early, positive engagement with young people. It is encouraging to see students building confidence, staying active and forming respectful relationships within their community,” he said.

Councillor Rod Schubert, Midland Ward representative, said the program played an important role in supporting young people in Tatura.

“This program gives students the opportunity to participate in new activities while building trust and connection within their local community. These experiences support young people to feel safe, supported and engaged here in Tatura,” he said.
