After more than a year of redevelopment works the Tatura Library is now officially open to the public.
Works on the $2 million-dollar redevelopment began in January last year, with the final product doubling the size of the library and including a number of new specialised features for the community to enjoy.
While the doors to the Casey Street library have been open to the public since 27 January this year, Council is now pleased to officially open the redevelopment and welcome everyone to come and utilise the space.
The new additions include a dedicated children’s area, a multipurpose meeting room, quiet reading areas and an IT zone featuring new computers.
Works also involved extending the building by 240m2 to create additional space, improving access in and out of the building along with creating a more welcoming entrance to the library and the Community House.
Greater Shepparton City Council, Councillor Greg James, officially opened the building today alongside Federal Member for Nicholls the Hon Damian Drum and Goulburn Valley Library chair Derek Poulton.
The redevelopment was funded by a $600,000 grant provided by the Victorian Government through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program along with 1.3 million from Greater Shepparton City Council.
Community contributions were made to complete the fit out and furnishing and to date over $131,000 has been raised, including a $100,000 contribution by the Federal Government through the Murray Darling Basin Economic Development Program.
Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe, said it was an exciting day to see the development formally opened to the public.
“Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to officially open the library today and welcome the community to come and use these fantastic new services,” she said.
“The redevelopment of the Tatura Library was an important task to help meet the growing community needs and improve the facilities and amenities available for our residents.
“I encourage the community to attend the library and make use of the new spaces, including the dedicated children’s area which is a great addition for local families.”
