Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise works will be commencing in early 2019 to upgrade the Verney Road, Balaclava Road, New Dookie Road and Hawdon Street intersection.
The current roundabout will become a signalised intersection as part of these works, to improve traffic flow. This will also continue to provide ongoing benefits as Shepparton’s north-east district continues to develop.
The upgrade will reduce delays at this intersection improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Modifications will be made to all the approaches to the intersection to accommodate the new layout. This includes moving the bus interchange from Balaclava Road to Hawdon Street.
Council invites members of the public to an information evening to meet with the project team to discuss in more detail the scope and implications of the project.
Director of infrastructure Phil Hoare said this was a major project for Council and the construction period would be significant.
“There will be implications for those who live near or travel through this area and we want to discuss and manage this impact the best we can,” Mr Hoare said.
“The information session will provide an opportunity to commence those discussions.”
The first stage of works will be the relocation of the bus interchange from Balaclava Road to Hawdon Street and some service relocation works. These works are likely to commence in late January 2019. Intersection and pavement works will follow with modifications to all of the roads around the intersection to accommodate the improvements.
During the information session there will be large scale maps of the area of works and details on the modifications available to view. In addition our team members will be happy to answer questions regarding issues of particular interest to the community.
Details of the session are:
