The Victorian Open bowls tournament will return to Shepparton in 2014. The competition will incorporate a Saturday finals day for the first time, with the event running from 23-29 November, 2014.
Bowls Victoria and the Greater Shepparton City Council today signed an agreement to keep the event, now in its fourth year, in its traditional home in Shepparton.
The event will held at Shepparton Park BC and various other other clubs throughout the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley area. Hundreds of bowlers from Victoria and beyond are expected to compete in Singles, Pairs and Fours events for Men and Women. There is also a Mixed Pairs tournament.
The event is run in partnership with Greater Shepparton City Council whose representatives joined with Bowls Victoria President, Rosemary Varty, to mark the announcement of the event at Shepparton Park BC.
Bowls Victoria Chief Executive, Graeme Bridge, was delighted to announce an extension to the partnership. "The Victorian Open has quickly become an integral part of the Victorian bowls calendar and we are delighted to have retained it. The City of Greater Shepparton has been and excellent partner and we are more than happy to be working with them again to host the event. We know many bowlers are already excited about returning to the area for this tournament."
Greater Shepparton Mayor Jenny Houlihan said this event further strengthens Greater Shepparton's reputation as a leading sporting events destination.
"This week-long event provides an invaluable economic and social boost to our community with all bowls clubs in the Greater Shepparton region being used to host this prestigious championship." Cr Houlihan said.
