ADVICE FROM GV WATER: A broken sewer main in Wyndham St Shepparton and an increase in stormwater inflow has caused Lake Victoria to be temporarily closed due to water quality issues.
GVW operations crews are currently on site fixing the main.
The issue has been reported to the EPA and GVW are working with Greater Shepparton City Council (COGS) to monitor water quality whilst the problem is rectified. Signage has been placed around the lake advising residents that it is currently closed to all users. Recreational user groups, including the rowing club, have also been notified of the issue.
Lake water quality will be continuously monitored over the coming days. There are minimal risks to the community, however residents are advised to avoid contact with lake water until further advised.
