In Summary
- New lighting installation at Victoria Park Lake Skate Park begins today, Monday 10 February, with completion expected by late March or early April 2025.
- Four lighting towers and upgraded shelter lighting will be installed, featuring automatic controls for enhanced safety and accessibility.
- Works will occur from 7.30am to 5.30pm, with efforts to keep the skate park open, though some part-day closures may be necessary for safety.
- Community patience and cooperation appreciated, as this upgrade will extend usability and improve the overall experience for skaters, BMX riders and visitors.
The works, undertaken by Watters Electrical, will include the installation of four lighting towers around the perimeter of the skate park, along with upgraded lighting for the shelters. The new lighting system will feature automatic controls that activate at low light levels and deactivate at predetermined times, enhancing both safety and accessibility for users.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Gary Randhawa said the lighting upgrade is an exciting improvement for the community.
“This project will ensure the skate park remains a safe and welcoming space for local skaters, BMX riders, and visitors,” Mr Randhawa said. “By extending the hours of usability, particularly during the darker months, we’re providing a better experience for everyone who enjoys this fantastic facility.”
Works will be carried out between 7.30am and 5.30pm, weather permitting. While every effort will be made to keep the skate park open throughout construction, some part day closures may be required for safety reasons. Advance notice of any closures will be provided, and users are asked to follow all on-site signage and directions.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while these important upgrades take place,” Mr Randhawa said. “This investment will ensure the skate park remains a vibrant and safe space for years to come.”
