The Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre were awarded as a finalists at the RACV Victorian Tourism awards in a gala ceremony Melbourne on Monday night.
The Awards are in their 30th year and recognise the best of the tourism industry in Victoria and comprise several categories including Visitor Information and Services.
Frankston Visitor Centre won the award the Shepparton, Phillip Island and Bass Coast, and Sunbury Visitor Centres were all shortlisted finalists.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Johann Rajaratnam, said it was a huge achievement to be shortlisted as the application and submission process is quite exhaustive.
“Being recognised as in the top of your field across Victoria is an excellent result. There were months of preparation for the Tourism staff in bringing together the submission. Once they were shortlisted they also had site visits from the judges,” he said.
“We really need to also thank the volunteers for making the Visitor Centre the experience it is for visitors and residents of Greater Shepparton. They obviously impressed the judges when they made the site visits,” said Mr Rajaratnam.
“It’s been a big few weeks for the team with our Visitor Centre Community Open Day, an Tourism Month industry function and the launch of Discover Your Own backyard. We encourage people to come into the Visitor Centre and see what we can offer you and your visitors.”
The Visitor Centre is located at 33 Nixon Street, Shepparton opposite the Queen’s Gardens. For more information visit www.discovershepparton.com.au or call 1800 808 839.
