The first Greater Shepparton Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan will be launched with a celebration in the Maude St Mall on Friday 24 October.
The Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan 2014-2018 provides a framework for how we promote, recruit, retain, support, celebrate and recognise volunteers across the municipality.
The strategy has five aims:
Greater Shepparton Mayor Jenny Houlihan said the development of this strategy recognised the important role volunteers play in the community.
“Volunteers play a vital role in the Greater Shepparton community with many clubs, groups and organisations relying heavily on volunteers to continue to deliver the services and functions they provide to the community,” Cr Houlihan said.
“It is important that we retain and support our existing volunteers as well as attract new people into volunteering.”
“I would also like to thank everyone who was involved in developing this strategy, from the Volunteer Managers Network to everyone who was involved in the consultation.”
The launch will take place in the Maude Street Mall, Friday 24 October between 11am and 2pm. A mini expo featuring members of the volunteer manager network will also take place, showcasing their organisations and volunteer opportunities. Entertainment and a free bbq will also be available.
