Do you have a spare hour once a month to volunteer for the Tatura Meals on Wheels deliveries? Are you looking for a way to help the more vulnerable in our community?
The Greater Shepparton City Council Meals on Wheels service is needing volunteers specifically to do rounds in the Tatura township for between 40 minutes and one hour on a four-weekly roster.
Acting Manager Community Wellbeing, Rachael Frampton, said the service delivers up to 100 meals each day to Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura. “The service relies on volunteers to keep people in our community eating regularly and eating well but it is more than just a meal.”
“The Meals on Wheels service and volunteers provide an important community connection through calling at homes each day to provide a cheery hello, daily contact and check that each client is safe and well.”
“Receiving a nourishing meal enables residents to remain at home and stay engaged with their communities,” said Ms Frampton.
“While services receive some government funding, they could not operate without volunteers to keep costs down and make meals affordable for clients. People can self-refer to Meals on Wheels if they believe they may benefit from the service or they can be referred, for example by a health practitioner or family member.”
Meal delivery processes are in accordance with COVID safe requirements to ensure both the clients and the volunteers are not placed at unnecessary risk.
A 5 litre fuel voucher is available for each volunteer vehicle. If you would like to find out more information or are available to assist in Tatura please phone Greater Shepparton City Council on 5832 9700.
