Work on the redevelopment of the Shepparton Library has commenced with the removal of internal fixtures and fittings in one half of the facility.
One side of the library has been separated by a wall constructed by the builders which allows them to complete the bulk of the work without impacting on library operations.
The Shepparton library services will operate throughout most the renovation with safe construction sites established and minimal disruption to library users and staff however there will be a requirement to close the Library to the public at some stage to complete essential construction works.
The accessible toilet at the Shepparton library will not be available for the remainder of the redevelopment works. This is to enable the demolition of the existing toilet and the provision of a new accessible toilet that is compliant with current standards.
The existing male and female toilets remain operational onsite and the nearest accessible toilets have been identified as being in the Eastbank Centre which can be accessed via a ramp to the rear door of the Centre.
We recognise that this will potentially be problematic to some users and apologise for the inconvenience. We look forward to the completion of the redevelopment and the provision of brand new accessible facilities.
Project Board Chair and Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Community, Kaye Thomson, said Crow Constructions Pty Ltd were appointed successful tenderers last month and commenced work in early August. Renovations expected to be completed by December 2014.
The Victorian Government Living Libraries fund provided $433,000 towards the redevelopment with Greater Shepparton City Council providing $217,000.
