The playground and parking area at the reserve will be closed to the public for the duration of the works, however the sporting fields will remain open as normal for training and matches.
Building on Stage 1 and Stage 2, completed in 2009 and 2013, the Stage 3 redevelopment totals more than $3.7 million and is partly funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Stage 3 works include expansion of the pavilion, car park upgrades and landscaping. The expanded pavilion will include social room facilities, a kitchen/kiosk, and will have the ability to cater for functions and meetings.
“The upgrades will provide better amenities for the sporting clubs and community groups that utilise the facility,” Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keefe said.
“The pavilion will be the new home of Shepparton South Community Centre. The community centre will benefit from a purpose built space with adequate on-site parking, which will improve access to the service.”
Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, said he was thrilled with the commencement of the Stage 3 works at Vibert Reserve Pavilion.
“Several local groups and organisations will significantly benefit from this upgrade and I’m proud that the Federal Government is providing $1.9 million towards the project,” Mr Drum said.
“Modern facilities such as these are vital to any community and I applaud Greater Shepparton City Council’s decision to undertake this upgrade, which will create a number of jobs during the construction phase.
“Every single job we support makes a huge difference in our local community – now and as we build our way out of the pandemic – and that is why we moved quickly to approve funding.”
President of South Shepparton Community Centre, Mheg Lumsden said, “Our team is thrilled that construction is starting at Vibert Reserve Pavilion.
“We have been at our Service Street location for 35 years and it is no longer fit for purpose. We are extremely grateful to Council for their support in finding us a new location. This new purpose built space will enable South Shepparton Community Centre to continue to support and serve the community into the future.”
