Traffic calming works throughout the Shepparton central business district commenced on Monday 27 May.
Works in Fryers Street, North Street, Corio Street and the Maude/Fryers Street intersection will see pedestrian crossings raised in a bid to reduce vehicle speeds and provide safer conditions for pedestrians at busy locations in the CBD.
Local contractors Jarvis Delahey Contractors (JDC) and One Stop Civil have set up traffic management signage and started removal of existing pavements and kerb.
JDC will work sequentially to complete the three sites in Fryers Street by the end of June. One Stop Civil will complete the works at the La Trobe University crossing in North Street by mid-June followed by the crossing in Corio Street south of Vaughan Street by the end of June.
The works will be undertaken on one side of the road at a time so traffic can continue to flow on the side remaining open.
“Council has worked closely with the contractors to minimise impact on traffic flow and to ensure that pedestrian access is available at all times,” Council Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said.
“The contractors have signed the detours clearly for diversion of traffic around the works.
“We appreciate the patience of Greater Shepparton businesses and residents while these works are being completed.”
