Installation of Electric Vehicle charger bays within Maude and Nixon Streets Car Park

Greater Shepparton City Council would like to inform the community of the installation of four electric vehicle (EV) charger bays within the Council-owned Maude and Nixon Street Car Park in Shepparton.

  • Four new EV charging bays will be installed by the NRMA at the Maude and Nixon Streets Car Park in Shepparton, compatible with all EV makes and models.

  • Two 180kW ABB Terra DC chargers will be installed, capable of charging an EV to 80% in approximately 20 minutes (depending on vehicle specifications).
  • The project is part of the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation Fund, aiming to establish a National EV Charging Network on key highway routes across the country. 

The four EV charging bays will be installed by the National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA). These EV chargers will be compatible with all EV makes and models and will be accessible by all motorists.

Installation of the EV charging units is expected to commence in April 2025 and take up to three weeks to complete. The work site will be contained within the four car parks adjacent to the charging bays, with minimal disruption expected to the surrounding car park. Access to the car park will be maintained throughout the works, with traffic management in place to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety.

Powercor will also complete upgrade works to enable the EV Chargers to be operational, which is expected to be completed by late June 2025.

The charging stations will comprise of two 180kW ABB Terra DC chargers which can charge an EV to 80 per cent battery charge in 20 minutes (subject to vehicle specifications and competing power load).

Council is supporting this project by entering into a 10-year licence agreement with the NRMA for the use of the land. The project is part of the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation Fund which aims to deliver a National EV Charging Network comprised of over 100 charging stations on key highway routes every 150kms.

“We expect that the EV Chargers will be installed and operational before the end of June 2025,” Council’s Manager Engineering and Assets, Ben Gannon said.

“We thank the community for their patience and cooperation while the installation works are undertaken.”
