Council approved the allocation of $8,878.00 to four community groups under the Community Arts Grants Round Two - 2018/2019 at the May Ordinary Council Meeting.
The Toolamba Craft Group, the 36 Degrees South Choir, Kaiela Arts Shepparton and the Shepparton Malayalee Association will receive financial assistance for art projects after submitting eligible applications.
The aims of the Community Arts Grant are to facilitate projects which achieve some or all of the following objectives:
Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said it is crucial to support art and culture in Greater Shepparton.
“Thank you to all the community groups that submitted applications for the Community Arts Grants,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“We are pleased to be able to offer financial assistance when it comes to the promotion of the arts and culture in our community.”

Toolamba Community Quilt
The Toolamba Community Quilt, ‘Small Town, Big Heart’, was completed in 2018 with photographs and ideas contributed by many individuals and community groups in Toolamba. Toolamba Craft Group plan to install the quilt in the Toolamba Community Hall at a community event and also create postcards of the quilt.

36 Degrees South Choir
Electronic piano for Chapel on Maude
Chapel on Maude is a new exciting arts space that is a partnership between 36 Degrees South Choir, GV Concert Orchestra and Shepparton Brass and Wind. After relocation, the choir no longer has access to Shepparton High School’s instruments. The choir will use the funding to purchase an electronic piano.

Freshwater People: Short Film Project
This is a film based community art project that will document artistic processes involved in design and making of screen prints. The film will consist of artist interviews, narration and on-site recordings of studio processes. Lead by independent filmmaker Cecelia Hedditch.

SHEMA Traditional Music and Arts Exhibition 2019
This is a public performance event showcasing cultural music and dance. The 2019 event will be a confluence of different world cultures. It is an opportunity for the community’s younger generation to touch base with the Malayalee culture and traditions.
