Council noted the awarding of two contracts valued at more than $500,000 in total at its March Council Meeting held on Tuesday.
In Summary
The first contract awarded was for the provision of Queensland Fruit Fly Trapping Grid Services, with approximately $228,279 awarded to AGnVET Management Services Pty Ltd.
The contract will support Council’s ongoing efforts to address Queensland Fruit Fly across the region through the purchase and installation of fruit fly traps throughout the Goulburn Murray Valley. The trapping network will enable continued monitoring, data collection and reporting to track and measure fruit fly presence in different locations.
When fruit fly is detected in urban and rural areas, Council field officers will respond in accordance with established control measures.
Services under the contract have already commenced. Continuation beyond June 2026 however will be dependent on an upcoming funding announcement from the State Government, with provision for up to three one-year contract extensions, subject to funding availability.
The second contract relates to the construction of the Gum Road Extension in Shepparton. Approximately $243,436 was awarded to Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd to deliver the project.
The scope of work includes construction of a concrete footpath, kerb and channel, road pavement and a concrete laneway entry, as well as the installation of stormwater drainage infrastructure and pits. Works commenced on Monday 16 March and are expected to be completed by 1 May 2026, weather permitting.
The works are required as part of the sale of the land to the Department of Health, which includes a condition that the site has road frontage on at least two sides.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, welcomed the awarding of both contracts to local businesses.
“We also continue to advocate to the State Government to ensure promised funding for Queensland Fruit Fly services is delivered. We know the damage this pest can cause to our region, and we remain committed to addressing this issue for the benefit of our community and local industries.”
