Green Organic contamination rates at its best

Green Organic waste contamination rates in Greater Shepparton have been at their best since 2018 with the February rate at a low 1.38 per cent.

Greater Shepparton residents have done an excellent job in sorting their waste in 2020 with contamination rates for the same time last year 2.24 per cent.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said Council thanks all residents for their efforts which has resulted in an outstanding reduction in contamination rates in the municipality. To see such consistent results at the start of the year shows Greater Shepparton residents are thinking carefully about which bin they are using for their waste,” Mr Hoare said.

“Putting organic waste in the green lid bin has many benefits, primarily protecting our environment and diverting waste from landfill which has long term benefits for us all.”

“However it is important residents remember the green lid bin is for organic waste only, such as lawn clippings and food scraps. We encourage residents to carefully consider what is placed in the bin,” Mr Hoare said.
