New female friendly amenities at Kialla Park Recreation Reserve

Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise work has commenced on a $423,000 upgrade of the facilities at Kialla Park Recreation Reserve to ensure they provide for and encourage female participants in the various sporting activities that use this great facility.

Council has awarded the building contract to Moretto Building for the upgrade which will expand the existing change room facilities and upgrade all amenities to current accessible standards at the popular Kialla complex.

The upgrade works include the construction of female change rooms, toilets, showers along with first aid room and an umpire’s room to ensure this facility is female friendly and to cater for the increasing number of female participants in cricket and football.

Kialla Park Recreation Reserve is home to the Goulburn Murray AFL headquarters and a number of sporting clubs including women’s football, junior football and cricket teams. It will also be the home of the GV Umpires association from 2020.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said “the upgrades to the pavilion at the Kialla Park Recreation Reserve will make it a female friendly facility and we are excited to have this initiative commencing”.

“The works will provide for and support the increasing number of women and girls in football, cricket, umpiring and the Murray Bushrangers youth girls Academy and will also assist in attracting other major events and functions. The various sporting groups and users are excited about this project and are looking forward to having these operational”. Together with the upgrade to the oval and lights this work will transform this facility into a modern sporting hub”.

“The new change rooms have been something we have been working on with the sporting groups to support continued growth in the use of the facility,” said Mr Hoare.

Works are due to commence in December with completion anticipated early April 2020.
