Work Experience at Shepparton Animal Shelter
Are you currently completing a TAFE or University qualification with animals? Do you require placement in an animal shelter environment?
Working at an Animal Shelter and caring for lost and unwanted animals is a challenging and very rewarding experience.
The Shepparton Animal Shelter currently has limited placement opportunities for those studying TAFE or University qualifications in the following fields:
- Animal Studies
- Animal Husbandry
- Veterinary Nursing
- Animal Control and Regulation
- Statutory Regulation
- Animal Technology
Placement at an Animal Shelter encourages hands on experience with opportunities to observe, gain experience and knowledge of:
- animal husbandry and care
- minor veterinary procedures
- working in an Animal Shelter environment
- knowledge in state legislation surrounding responsible pet ownership, animal husbandry and animal cruelty
- experience working with Council Rangers whilst at the Animal Shelter

To apply for Work Experience placement, please contact us via our Work Experience page. A pre-placement interview will then be arranged to determine suitability and availability of opportunities. Please note that all placement applicants will be required to:
- provide evidence of current tetanus vaccination
- provide evidence that their own dogs and cats are currently vaccinated
- be willing to handle a variety of animals including cats and dogs
- be willing to undertake instructions from Council staff
- maintain confidentiality
- be polite and courteous at all times
