Business Mentor Program - Web Banner

Running a business can feel isolating. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to grow, having someone to talk things through with can make a real difference.

The Business Mentoring Program connects local business owners with experienced mentors for practical, one-on-one conversations focused on real challenges. Mentors give practical guidance, share their experience, offer perspective and help you clarify you goals and next steps, all in a supportive and confidential environment.

Mentoring sessions are informal, in person and designed to fit around your business. It’s an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen decision-making and connect with the local business community.

Mentees will:

  • receive FREE 2 x 60-minute mentoring sessions in-person with an experienced local business person; these will be structured sessions with clear goals;
  • need to hold an ABN registered in Greater Shepparton or have a physical location in Greater Shepparton;
  • be committed to making the most of the mentoring experience by coming prepared to each session.

Mentoring sessions can take place at any suitable and agreed upon location, with coffee vouchers available for daytime catch‑ups.

How do I become a mentor?

We are currently not seeking any mentors for the program, however if you are interested in participating in future programs, please get in touch with Council’s Economic Development Engagement Coordinator on 5832 9850 or email karen.mellington@shepparton.vic.gov.au

What if it’s not the right fit?

A check-in will occur after your first meeting. If you feel the match isn’t right, you can let Council know and we will try to match you with another mentor.

It is important to note that mentors offer honest, experience-based advice. At times their feedback may feel challenging, but it’s designed to strengthen your decision making and provide genuine guidance, not just reassurance.

What if I’m not selected for the program?

Unsuccessful applicants may be placed on a waitlist and contacted if a place becomes available for future Business Mentor Programs.
