Join the Disability Advisory Committee

Greater Shepparton City Council is calling for nominations from local residents for the Greater Shepparton Disability Advisory Committee.

Committee members meet at least 10 times per year from February to December each year. 

Nominations for an appointment to the committee will be received until 5pm on Friday 5 May 2023.

About the DAC

Greater Shepparton City Council supports the rights and aspirations of all community members regardless of their Disability.

The purpose of the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) is to provide a platform for advocacy and representation on issues relating to people living with a disability in the community to support and inform Council future directions relating to issues affecting those with a disability, inform good decision making and enhance inclusive practices across Council.

Selection Process & Timeline

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI’s) open on Monday 17 April 2023
  2. EOIs close on Friday 5 May 2023
  3. Selection panel convenes on Monday 15 May 2023 to review the applications that have been received.
  4. Applicants informed of the outcome of the appointment in late May/early July 2023
  5. Members appointed to the Committee via endorsement at a Council meeting in July 2023.

Some facts about the DAC

  • Meetings are bi monthly for up to 90 minutes.
  • You do not need experience to join the group any one is welcome to apply.
  • You will have opportunities to provide advice to Council on how to make Greater Shepparton more accessible and inclusive.
  • You will have the opportunity hear from and & work with other service providers within the Sector working in Greater Shepparton.
  • Assist in planning events that celebrate the achievements of people with disability in the community.
  • Assist in planning events that promote Access & Inclusion in the community
  • Participating on the DAC will provide an opportunity to build your confidence and develop your leadership and advocacy skills.
  • It’s not all work and no play, there is also ample time to socialise, chat and exchange ideas with your fellow committee members.

Selection criteria

  • Diversity in membership.
  • Willingness to share your insights and experience of disability.
  • Keen to work with other people that share your interest in access and inclusion matters.
  • A desire to make Greater Shepparton inclusive of everyone regardless of their age or ability.
  • A demonstrated commitment to attend Committee meetings.

Meeting schedule

The DAC meets Bi monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 12pm to 1.30pm
