Project background

KidsTown adventure playground, located off the Causeway between Shepparton and Mooroopna, stands as a cherished symbol of local pride and creativity.

The five-acre playground and community gathering area has been an inclusive, imaginative, safe and stimulating environment for children of all ages and abilities for nearly 30 years.

Key benefits to the community

With terms like “iconic playground”, “community landmark” and “well known and much-loved community asset” this facility is a vital part of Shepparton’s identity, and a significant feature of Goulburn Valley.

It’s more than a playground, it has the potential to again be a thriving community hub and is genuinely a part of the social fabric of the region and a pillar of many childhoods.

So what's happening with KidsTown?

Now showing signs of age, and following impacts from the 2002 floods, the facility requires revitalisation to be restored to its unique recreational value, and to meet modern safety and accessibility standards.

With bespoke play elements that pay tribute to the Goulburn Valley’s orchard and dairy heritage, the potential of KidsTown to educate, entertain, and inspire still exists, with this opportunity to contribute to the revitalisation being of great interest to the local community – especially those who remember it from its glory days.

Your voice, our next step

At the August 2025 Council Meeting, Council resolved to:

  • Begin a comprehensive community engagement process to shape a new KidsTown Master Plan.
  • Allocate $650,000 in 2025/26 for essential rehabilitation works in collaboration with key stakeholders.

This marks the beginning of a journey to secure the future of KidsTown as a safe, inclusive, and iconic space for generations to come.

Before we hold in-person sessions at KidsTown, we want to hear from you. We're now asking the community to share your questions to guide the first community information sessions and make sure we’re covering the issues that are most important to you.
